The Drowning Girls

Nicole Jeannine Smith, Carley Cornelius, and Katherine Michelle Tanner in The Drowning Girls at Urbanite Theatre

An indistinct, dreamlike Edwardian bathroom is what I designed for Urbanite Theatre’s production of The Drowning Girls. The script itself is the story of the life of serial killer George Joseph Smith from the point of view of his final three victims. Our production was haunting, heartbreaking, and funny, thanks to the work of our wonderful team and director Brendan Ragan. Among the features of this set were, of course, three bathtubs full of water, corresponding functional showers, wall treatments that fade into nothing at the edges, decorative and semi-functional mirrors, gauzy curtains, and above it all a portrait of the man himself. It was a great production to work on.
